about kid aid
Kid Aid is based on the idea that every child deserves an equal opportunity at life, regardless of their background. While volunteering for
Children of Fire, Kid Aid founder, Kaone Mosime, was exposed to the life that
children at the Slovo Squatter are forced to live in. Squatter Camps are
environments where people, including children, live in atrocious conditions such as, people crammed closely together, with little
food, sometimes there is no water and electricity, there’s stagnant water and
what people call a home is a flimsy shack. Having a stable life there is like
standing in quicksand. The youth already believes that it has no future because
they already feel neglected by the system. Hence, based on her passion of helping
young people, Kaone thought that it would be a good idea if an organisation was
founded to help the children realise their potential, and that their dreams
shouldn’t be limited just because of their background.
Kid Aid aims to lessen the issues that the children face, not only in Slovo
but other Squatter Camps as well. Its main focus is on education, food and
wellness. Although, it will start off small with one squatter camp, with
enough support and investment, it will surely grow into something that impacts a lot of lives
in other Squatter Camps.
