Food
Providing nutritious food to children

This programme will be designed to reduce child hunger and provide nutrition. Food assistance programs, can have several benefits for both children and their families. Here are some of the benefits:

  • Improved nutritionFood assistance programs can provide children with regular access to nutritious food, which can help prevent malnutrition and related health problems. This is particularly important for children who may not have access to healthy meals at home.
  • Improved academic performance: Research has shown that children who are well-nourished perform better in school. Feeding schemes can help children to concentrate, stay focused, and learn more effectively.
  • Economic benefits: Food assistance programs can provide economic benefits to families by reducing household food expenses. This can help families to save money and use their resources for other essential needs, such as healthcare or housing.
  • Social benefits: Food assistance programs can help to promote social inclusion and reduce stigmatization of poor children. By ensuring that all children have access to nutritious food, food assistance programs can help to level the playing field and reduce social inequality.
Therefore, a food assistance program is a very important tool for addressing poverty and providing the wellbeing of children and their families.

Education
Provide education (informal activities intended to meet the basic learning needs of children aged 6-17)

Education without a doubt plays a huge role in order for someone to grow and succeed in life. The unfortunate truth is that some of the children at squatter camp do not attend school, which has resulted in them not being able to recognise numerical and alphabetic symbols at an age where they should have already learned them and already been progressing to more advanced learning. Kid Aid aims to target such children and provide them with the required knowledge and skills that will equip them to confidently progress and achieve more in their future lives

How?

Since we are a small organisation, building a permanent school will not be feasible and affordable. Therefore, we believe that a mobile school would be best. A mobile school, also known as a traveling school or a portable school, is a school that is designed to move from one location to another. This means that children without access to education otherwise can benefit from a mobile school.

Through the use of mobile schools we will constantly think of creative and innovative teaching methods, such as interactive technology, games, and simulations, to engage students and promote learning. In order to archive this, Kid Aid is currently discussing a partnership with an organisation that specialises in mobile schools and it also provides training to volunteers involved.

Overall, a mobile school will help to address educational disparities and increase access to education at squatter camps.

Wellness
Assist with physical health, with the help of public hospitals  and tackle mental health issues with the help of Social Workers and therapy.

At Kid Aid, we are committed to promoting children's wellness and providing the resources and support they need to thrive. Our wellness programme is aimed at improving the mental, social and physical health of the children so that they can reach their full potential. Kid Aid plans to partner with talented individuals (Dancers, Fitness Instructors, Artists etc) and Practitioners (Therapists, Social Workers, Lawyers, Nurses, Doctors & other healthcare professionals) to help promote healthy growth and development.

The children's wellness programme (depending on human resources available) will consist of:

  • Physical activity: Encouraging children to engage in physical activity is a key component of many children's wellness programs. This will include activities such as sports, games, dance, or yoga, and may be structured or unstructured.
  • Nutrition: Providing healthy food options and educating children about good nutrition. This will include offering healthy snacks, teaching children about food groups and portion sizes, and promoting healthy eating habits.
  • Mental health: Promoting positive mental health and emotional wellbeing. This will include activities such as mindfulness practices, stress management techniques, and counselling or therapy services.
  • Education: Educating children about healthy habits, including topics such as hygiene, sleep, and safety.
  • Socialisation: Encouraging socialisation and positive peer relationships. This will include activities such as group games, team-building exercises, or community service projects.
  • Parental involvement: Involve parents and caregivers in the process, providing resources and education to support the health and wellbeing of the whole family.
We believe that every child deserves a healthy and happy life, and we will continue to work towards that goal.
